Firearm storage rules are not identical across Europe. EU law requires secure storage and requires Member States to establish national rules, while the detailed safe, cabinet, anchoring and ammunition requirements are set by the law of the country where the firearm is kept.
Check the rules for your country
Before choosing a gun safe, check the current guidance from your national firearms licensing or police authority and the conditions of your permit. Do not rely on a wall thickness, security grade or anchoring rule taken from another country.
What to compare when choosing a gun safe
- the permitted firearm type, number and dimensions;
- the lock type and who may control the key, code or credentials;
- whether ammunition must be stored separately or in a separate lockable compartment;
- any required cabinet construction, security grade or certification;
- the anchoring method and the suitability of the wall or floor;
- internal height and depth, including optics and accessories.
