Best places to install a safe
The selected location should have a solid base, be easy to access and suitable for installation.
A safe should not be chosen separately from its installation location. A heavy model can be difficult to bring into the room, while a lightweight safe without anchoring can be carried away.
A solid wall or floor
Choose the anchoring method according to the manufacturer's instructions and the base material. Concrete is usually more reliable than a lightweight partition or thin furniture panel. Before drilling, check that there are no electrical cables or pipes in the chosen location.
Convenient, but out of sight
The owner should have proper access to the safe, but it should not be placed in the most conspicuous location. Do not choose an excessively tight recess: the door must open fully, and the lock must be easy to use.
Humidity, heat and flooding
In a basement and near an external wall, take condensation into account. Do not place the safe directly next to a heating appliance. Raising it above the floor reduces everyday risks, but does not replace tested water protection.
Wall safe or home safe
It is best to plan the location for a wall safe during renovation. A home safe takes up less space, but it should be anchored to a solid structure rather than simply placed in a cupboard.
Check delivery and installation
- measure doorways, staircases, the lift and turns;
- check the safe's weight and the floor's load-bearing capacity;
- select anchors suitable for the base material;
- after installation, check the door and lock.
