What should you do if you have forgotten your safe code?

Safe procedure without drilling, forceful impacts or questionable methods of bypassing the lock.

If a safe will not open, do not use random bypass methods found online. They may damage the lock and contents, and make it harder to confirm lawful ownership. Start by identifying the model.

1. Stop entering codes repeatedly

Many electronic locks temporarily lock out after several incorrect attempts. Wait for the time specified in the instructions. Do not strike the door or keypad.

2. Find the model and documents

Check the receipt, instructions and model designation. The manufacturer's documentation will show whether there are external power contacts, an emergency key or an official recovery procedure.

3. Check the power supply only according to the instructions

Flat batteries can disable the lock. Replace them or connect external power only in the manner specified by the manufacturer. Do not apply an arbitrary voltage.

4. Prepare proof of ownership

The service provider may request proof of purchase, the safe's serial number, identification and details of the installation location. This verification protects the owner from unauthorised opening.

5. Contact a service provider

If the official backup procedure did not help, arrange emergency safe opening. Provide the manufacturer, model, lock type and any error signals. Do not drill the safe yourself: a mistake will increase the repair cost.

After access has been restored

Replace the batteries, set a new unique code and check the door while it is open. Keep the backup key and instructions in a different controlled location, not inside or near the safe. For prevention, also read the comparison of lock types.
